EirGrid (Ireland) revises its 2030 roadmap to reach 80% of renewable power

The Irish power transmission system operator (TSO) EirGrid has revised its 2030 roadmap "Shaping Our Electricity Future Roadmap" to outline how to prepare the transmission grid to meet the target of 80% of renewable energy sources in Ireland’s and Northern Ireland’s power generation by 2030 (up from 70% in the previous roadmap).

By 2030, EirGrid plans to invest €176m in Ireland to modernise its grid (6 projects to upgrade existing grids and 10 new technology projects) to integrate 9 GW of onshore wind, 5 GW of offshore wind (+2 GW for hydrogen), 8 GW of solar and 3.8 GW of storage capacity. In Northern Ireland (United Kingdom), EirGrid plans to invest €60m (2 projects to upgrade existing circuits and one new substation) to integrate 2.45 GW of onshore wind, 0.5 GW of offshore wind, 0.6 GW of solar and 625 MW of storage capacity.
