The EIB provides €375m to an energy efficiency programme in Greece

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has agreed to provide €375m to support the Helektra programme in Greece, which aims to improve energy efficiency in public buildings, schools, hospitals and sports facilities. The programme, led by the Ministry of Environment and Energy and managed by the Consignment Deposits and Loans Fund, will improve insulation, replace obsolete heating and cooling equipment and increase the use of renewable energy. The scheme is expected to generate energy savings in public buildings of at least 30%, reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Greece aims to cap its primary energy consumption at 22.5 Mtoe in 2030 (at least 7 Mtoe of cumulative energy savings over the 2021-2030 period) and its final energy consumption at 16.1-16.5 Mtoe by 2030 (38% energy efficiency improvement compared to a baseline).
