EIB lends €110m to Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnection project

The European Investment Bank (EIB) will lend €110m to ICGB AD (Inter Connector Greece Bulgaria) for the construction of the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (ICGB), a 182 km-long gas pipeline project between Komotini in Greece and Stara Zagora in Bulgaria. The gas pipeline will have a capacity of 3 bcm/year in both directions and could be later expanded to 5 bcm/year by adding a compressor station. The project, selected as a Project of Common Interest (PCI) of the European Union, will significantly improve the integration of energy markets in southeastern Europe (including Romania and Hungary) as it will connect to 10 bcm/year the Trans Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP) at Komotini.

ICGB AD is a joint venture of Bulgaria's national energy holding BEH (50%) and IGI Poseidon (50%), with the Italian energy group Edison and the Greek state-owned gas group DEPA each owning 50% in IGI Poseidon.
