Egypt signs MoU for a 2 GW wind power project in the Gulf of Suez region

The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China's SANY Renewable Energy to develop a 2 GW wind power project the Gulf of Suez region of Egypt (State Information Service, 24/06/2025). The project is scheduled to be connected to the national electricity grid within 23 months of the signing date (by mid-2028).

Egypt targets raising the share of renewable energy in the country's electricity mix to 42% by 2030 (14% in 2025).
