Egypt approves Voltalia's 869 MW wind power project

Egypt’s Cabinet has given its approval for the development of an 869 MW wind power project to be carried out by the French renewable energy developer Voltalia (Egyptian Government announcement, 18/06/2026). The company is set to make an initial investment of USD53m in the project, which will be constructed on land provided by the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA).

Neither the exact location nor the financing arrangements of the project were disclosed, but the statement indicated that Voltalia has pledged to have the wind park fully operational and in commercial service by December 2028.

In Egypt, Voltalia already operates the 32 MW Ra solar power plant, situated within the Benban complex in the Aswan region. The company has further developed a substantial project pipeline in collaboration with the local partner TAQA Arabia. This includes a planned 3.2 GW wind and solar hybrid facility intended to repower the existing 545 MW Zafarana wind park in the Suez Governorate, as well as a USD3.5bn renewable energy and green hydrogen production complex located in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE).
