EDP Renovaveis, the renewable arm of Portuguese energy group EDP, reached a global renewable capacity of 9.6 GW in 2015 (9,281 MW fully owned and 356 MW through joint ventures in Spain and the United States). EDPR operated 5.1 GW in Europe, including 2.4 GW in Spain, 1.2 GW in Portugal, and 1.5 GW in the rest of Europe, 4.4 GW in North America and the remainder in Brazil (84 MW).
The group generated 21.4 TWh in 2015 (+8% compared to 2014), with half of this generation in the United States (11 TWh, +9%) and 10 TWh in Europe (+8%); power generation declined in Spain (-6% to 4.8 TWh), but soared in Portugal (+21% to 2 TWh, thanks to the consolidation of EDP's 533 MW stake in the ENEOP consortium) and in the rest of Europe (+29% to 3.2 TWh). At year-end 2015, EDPR had 344 MW of wind onshore under construction, including 200 MW in Mexico and the 120 MW Baixa do Feijão project in Brazil.
Overall, the EDP group installed 1.9 GW worldwide, reaching a total capacity of 24.4 GW: during 2015, the group installed 1.1 GW of wind capacity and a 720 MW coal-fired power plant in Pecém (brazil). Total power generation increased by 8% to 21.4 TWh, with higher thermal generation in Iberia and Brazil, and higher wind generation prompted by capacity additions in Europe and the United States, which more than compensated lower hydro resources in Iberia and Brazil.
