The US authorities have authorised EDPR and Engie to merge their offshore wind business in the United States. The new 50:50 joint venture, Ocean Winds, that was created in 2019, will have 5.5 GW of committed offshore assets, including 1.5 GW under construction and 4.0 GW under development. Ocean Wind aims to reach 5 to 7 GW of projects in operation or under construction and 5 to 10 GW under advanced development by 2025.
Ocean Wind owns a 50% stake in Mayflower Wind (5°% owned by Shell), which is developing an 804 MW offshore wind project off Massachusetts. Earlier in November 2020, the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities approved long-term contracts for 804 MW of offshore wind between Mayflower Wind and power distribution companies in Massachusetts. In addition, Ocean Wind is a partner in the 100-150 MW Redwood Coast floating offshore wind project in northern California (US).
