Edison's power sales fell by 5.6% in 2017 (Italy)

In 2017, the Italian energy group Edison Energia (a subsidiary of EDF) generated 20.8 TWh (-1.7% on 2016), mainly from CCGT power plants (16.7 TWh, -0.1%); Edison's hydropower generation fell by 11% to 2.2 TWh and its wind power generation dipped by 3.6% to 1 TWh. Renewables accounted for 16% of its power mix in 2017 (from 24% in 2015, when hydropower generation was much higher), compared to a renewable generation target of 40% by 2030.

The group sold 10.9 TWh of electricity (-5.6% on 2016) to nearly 573,000 customers, including 8.8 TWh to business customers (-5% on 2016), 1.2 TWh to households (-3.1%) and 0.9 TWh to small businesses (-14%). The group also sold 6.9 bcm of gas (+5.8%) to more than 486,000 customers, mainly to industrial customers and wholesalers (6.5 bcm, +6.3%).

Its gas sales are expected to rise with the €195m acquisition of Gas Natural Vendita Italia (GNVI) from Gas Natural Fenosa, which will increase its customer base on the Italian market by 50%. GNVI is present across Italy, mostly in Puglia, Calabria and Sicilia regions and its gas customer portfolio includes approximately 420,000 residential customers under the Regime di Maggior Tutela tariff along with 15,000 small and medium companies for a total sold volume of 3.3 TWh. Besides, GNVI also sold 7.3 TWh of natural gas to industrial clients and on the wholesale market in 2017.

Edison's hydrocarbon reserves amounted 36.5 bcm and the group produced nearly 2.1 bcm of gas (+7.7% on 2016) and 4,000 bbl of crude oil (-3.4%).
