Edify Energy plans 300 MW solar+BESS project in Victoria (Australia)

Australia’s renewable energy developer Edify Energy is seeking approval under the federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act to build the Nowingi Solar Power Station in north-western Victoria (Australia). The project will include a 300 MWac solar park co-located with a 300 MW/2,400 MWh BESS.

The hybrid project, located within the Mildura Rural City Council Local Government Area (LGA) of Victoria, will connect to the grid via AusNet’s existing 220 kV transmission line, with Edify responsible for building a new project substation. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and take approximately 18 months to complete.

Australia is targeting 82% renewable electricity generation by 2030. As of the end of 2024, the country had 38.5 GW of installed solar capacity and over 15 GW of wind capacity, which together accounted for 29% of the country's power mix.
