EDF has released its 2021 results, posting a net income (group share) of €5.1bn (x 8 compared to 2020). The group's electricity generation increased by 4.3% to 523.7 TWh (after a 10% decline in 2020), with 78% of nuclear, 9% of hydro, 7% of gas, 4% of renewables, 1% of fuel oil and 1% of coal. Nuclear output in France reached 360.7 TWh in 2021 (+7.5%) and hydro generation declined by 6.5% to 41.8 TWh. In the United Kingdom, EDF generated 41.7 TWh (-8.8%). EDF Renewables' output increased by 10.4% to 17 TWh. The group also produced 27.5 TWh of heat (+5.4%).
EDF's consolidated capacity declined by 3.2 GW in 2021 to 117.3 GW at the end of the year, with 70.1 GW of nuclear (-1.1 GW with the shutdown of Dungeness and Hunterston B nuclear reactors in the United Kingdom), 30.8 GW of renewables (including 21.5 GW of hydropower, +1.1 GW), 14.3 GW of gas and fuel oil (+0.6 GW) and 2.2 GW of coal (-1.5 GW). The company had 7.9 GW of renewable projects under construction at the end of 2021 and 76 GW at different stages of development.
