EDF submitted the review of its nuclear plant components records (France)

EDF reported it has carried out a comprehensive review of its nuclear components manufacturing records, as requested by the French Nuclear Safety Authority (Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire, ASN) in August 2017. The ASN previously ordered EDF to check the manufacturing records of all components produced at Areva NP's Le Creusot forge and installed in operating nuclear power plants before the restart of its reactors following planned refuelling outages. The review is now scheduled to run through the end of 2018. For each reactor, EDF submits a summary report for assessment two months prior to the restart of the respective reactor if the ASN approves it. As of 14 September 2017, twelve reports have been submitted so far: Chooz-2, Paluel-4, Saint-Laurent-2, Penly-1, Cruas-3, Dampierre-3, Belleville-2, Tricastin-3, Chinon-B3, Nogent-1, Gravelines-2 and Bugey-3.

In 2015, ASN discovered an anomaly in the steel composition of some parts of the vessel closure head and the vessel bottom head of the Flamanville EPR reactor, currently under construction in Normandy; these parts had been produced at Areva's NP Le Creusot forge. The ASN allowed Flamanville to start up (in 2018) but required the head of the reactor pressure vessel to be replaced by the end of 2024.

In June 2017, ASN identified 18 operational nuclear power plants in France, whose steam generators may contain high carbon concentrations, and ordered EDF to carry out additional inspections within three months.
