EDF has lowered its 2023 French nuclear output estimate from 340-370 TWh to 300-330 TWh due to a heavy industrial programme with 44 reactor outages for maintenance and inspection, including 6 ten-yearly inspections, plus 2 scheduled outages starting in 2022 that will continue into 2023. In addition, the control and repair programme on the pipes potentially affected by the stress corrosion phenomenon will continue in 2023. Earlier in February 2022, the company reduced its 2022 nuclear output estimate from 300 -330 TWh to 295-315 TWh due to extended outages at 5 reactors.
EDF produced 361 TWh of nuclear power in France in 2021 (+7.5% compared to 2020, thanks to a higher availability of its nuclear fleet and high wholesale electricity prices). Nuclear power accounted for 66% of the total generation in France in 2020.
