EDF lowers its French nuclear output estimate for 2022

The French state-owned power utility EDF has lowered its nuclear output estimate for 2022 from 280-300 TWh to 275-285 TWh due to the impact on maintenance schedules of strikes movements and outage extensions at 4 nuclear reactors. The company already revised downward its nuclear output estimates for 2022 several times due to extended reactor outages. France’s nuclear generation estimates for 2023 and 2024, respectively at 300-330 TWh and 315-345 TWh, remain unchanged.

In 2021, EDF produced 361 TWh of nuclear power in France (+7.5% compared to 2020, thanks to a higher availability of its nuclear fleet and high wholesale electricity prices). Nuclear power accounted for 69% of the total generation in France in 2021.
