France’s EDF has announced that it will expand its long-term contracts to a broader range of stakeholders: final consumers with annual needs exceeding 7 GWh, suppliers holding a French authorization to purchase electricity for resale, and electricity producers (EDF press release, 13/11/2025).
EDF aims to make available an additional 10.6 TWh of long-term power contracts for delivery starting on 1 January 2027, reducing exposure to volatile energy prices.
EDF has been offering “nuclear production allocation contracts” (CAPN) since late 2023. These agreements give partners access to a share of the actual power generation from France’s nuclear fleet in exchange for sharing its costs and risks. Partners receive low-carbon electricity for 10 to 15 years at prices based on nuclear production costs, rather than wholesale market prices.
