EDF completes the divestment of 3.3 GW of Polish assets to PGE

French energy group EDF has finalized the divestment of EDF Polska's assets to the Polish state-run utility Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE). The PLN4.27bn (around €1bn) transaction was signed by the two parties in May 2017 and was endorsed by the Polish competition authority in October 2017.

The agreement encompasses EDF Polska's 3.3 GW of installed capacity in Poland, namely the 1,775 MW coal-fired Rybnik power plant (Silesia) and four CHP power plants in Gdańsk, Gdynia, Cracow and Toruń. Besides, PGE has acquired EDF's 50% stake in Kogeneracja, which owns another four CHP plants in Poland. The assets generated a combined output of 12.4 TWh in 2016. With this acquisition, PGE Group is increasing its installed power generation capacities by 25% to nearly 16 GW and its heating capacities from 3.55 GW to 7.57 GW. EDF Polska will change its name to PGE Energia Ciepła.

EDF will maintain its presence in Poland through EDF Energies Nouvelles, Dalkia Energy Polska and Fenice Poland.
