EDF asked to widen the scope of the Creusot components review (France)

The French Nuclear Safety Authority (Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire, ASN) has asked EDF to extend the scope of its nuclear components manufacturing records comprehensive review. EDF will have to widen checks on other non-nuclear components made at the Creusot Force site, which has been under scrutiny over possible manufacturing flaws.

The ASN previously ordered EDF to check the manufacturing records of all components produced at Areva NP's Le Creusot Forge and installed in operating nuclear power plants before the restart of its reactors following planned refuelling outages. Some 1,600 Creusot components are currently installed across EDF’s nuclear reactor fleet. As of 14 September 2017, twelve reports have been submitted so far: Chooz-B2, Paluel-4, Saint-Laurent-B2, Penly-1, Cruas-3, Dampierre-3, Belleville-2, Tricastin-3, Chinon-B3, Nogent-1, Gravelines-2 and Bugey-3. This review revealed 601 anomalies, which will have to be analysed before the reactors will be allowed to restart.
