EDF and TotalEnergies will develop three solar projects (1.7 GW) in Saudi Arabia

The French energy groups EDF and TotalEnergies have signed 25-year power purchase agreements (PPA) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) for three solar projects totalling 1.7 GW in Saudi Arabia. The two companies will develop the project under a build-own-operate model.

EDF Renewables has been awarded two projects totalling 1.4 GW. The projects include the 1 GW Al-Masaa and the 400 MW Al-Henakiyah 2 schemes, in which the French group is partnering with the Chinese State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC). TotalEnergies, in partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Aljomaih Energy and Water Company (AEW) was awarded the 300 MW Rabigh 2 solar project, expected to come online in 2026.

The solar projects are part of Round 5 of Saudi Arabia’s National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP), which offered four projects totalling 3.7 GW. In October 2024, the 2-GW Al Sadawi solar project was awarded to a consortium led by the UAE’s Masdar.
