EDF Renewables, a subsidiary of the French group EDF, and the UK company Luminous Energy have unveiled plans for the development of an up to 800 MW solar park and battery project between Lincoln and Sleaford in the county of Lincolnshire in the UK’s east Midlands region. The companies have also announced a public consultation on early plans for the Springwell Solar project, which will run for six weeks starting from 24 January 2023. The plant could potentially supply the energy needs of 180,000 Lincolnshire County households.
Several commercial scale solar projects were recently announced in the UK, notably the 350 MW Mallard Pass solar project and the 600 MW Tween Bridge solar project, both located in Lincolnshire County, as well as the 840 MW Botley West Solar project in Oxfordshire.
At the end of 2021, solar represented 14% of the UK’s installed capacity with 13.7 GW and 4% of its power generation with 12.7 TWh (4.4% of the power mix in 2022, according to preliminary figures). The UK currently has over 14 GW of solar projects under development.
