French energy group EDF Energies Nouvelles has signed a strategic partnership with Canadian pipeline operator Enbridge, under the terms of which Enbridge will acquire a 50% in Eolien Maritime France (EMF, fully owned by EDF), the company controlling the three future offshore wind parks in France with a cumulate capacity of 1,400 MW.
EMF, which will be jointly owned by EDF and Enbridge (50% each), was awarded 3 offshore wind projects in 2012 in the first call for tenders organised by French authorities: the 498 MW Eoliennes Offshore des Hautes Falaises project off the coast of Fécamp (English Channel), the 480 MW Parc du Banc de Guérand project off the coast of Saint-Nazaire (Atlantic coast) and the 450 MW Eoliennes Offshore du Calvados off the coast of Courseulles-sur-Mer (English Channel).
Construction is expected to start gradually from 2017 and the projects should be commissioned in 2020 at the earliest.
