Generadora Metropolitana, a JV between Chilean AME and EDF Power Solutions Chile, has started construction works of its 509 MW/2,036 MWh Dune Plus BESS in María Elena, in the Chilean Antofagasta Region (Generadora Metropolitana press release, 20/11/2025).
The project plans to integrate an independent ESS located within the CEME1 project (Dune BESS, 333.5 MW/1,334 MWh) and La Pampina solar + BESS project (186 MW of solar PV capacity coupled with a 175.5 MW/702 MWh storage system). In total, the project “will incorporate 406 battery containers, more than 297,000 panels and more than 150 transformers.”
Once integrated, the project will supply 1 TWh to mining company Codelco under a 15-year contract.
