EDF agrees 30 TWh power supply for French energy-intensive industries until 2034

EDF and the Exeltium consortium have announced that they have reached an agreement for the supply of up to nearly 30 TWh of additional electricity under their existing partnership contract, extending deliveries through 30 April 2034 (EDF press release, 14/01/2026). The Exeltium consortium brings together 24 electricity-intensive industrial companies based in France, active in the chemicals, metals, materials, paper and food processing sectors, including Clairefontaine, Suez and Rio Tinto. The additional volumes are intended both to meet the power needs of Exeltium’s companies and to support EDF’s long-term revenue stability.

According to EDF, the agreement is part of the continuation of the original industrial partnership contract signed in 2008 between EDF and eligible electricity-intensive industrial companies operating in France. Under this contract, the consortium has access to 148 TWh of electricity over a 24-year period, in return for an upfront payment of €1.75bn made to EDF at the start of the contract in 2010.
