The Colombian energy company Ecopetrol has announced a US$512m progressive investment over the next six years in the department of Huila, Colombia. As part its “Ecopetrol 2040 strategy: Energy that Transforms”, the company aims to develop the integrated development project of the Dina-Tertiary and Palogrande fields, which consists of the drilling of 82 wells (43 producers and 39 injectors), the execution of 69 workover works, the adaptation of batteries and production facilities in the fields and the optimization and reactivation of 11 existing wells. The drilling and adaptation works will be carried out between 2025 and 2028, to increase the fields’ output to 9.2 kb/d of oil and about 57,000 m3/d of gas by 2030 (currently 15.8 kboe/d). Works are expected to be developed between May 2025 and 2028.
Ecopetrol estimates that energy efficiency technologies should allow to reduce 656 tCO2/year and the use of about 57,000 m3 of gas.
At the end of 2023, Colombia had proven oil reserves amounting to 278 Mt and 80 bcm of gas.
