Colombia's state-owned energy company Ecopetrol and the Brazilian oil and gas group Petrobras have completed the initial Formation tests of the Sirius-2 well located in the area of the GUA-OFF-0 block offshore Colombia. The data collected during the testing phase confirms the prediction that was made with the seismic interpretation, with the characterization of the fluids obtained allowing for the installation of gas treatment facilities. The consortium has begun with the preparations for the development of the field, expecting to start production by 2029.
The Sirius project began in 2022 with the aim of exploring and evaluating the potential for natural gas in the offshore area of the Colombian Caribbean. Sirius-1 was discovered by mid-2022 and Sirius-2 at the end of 2024, with confirmed volumes of over 170 bcm (6 Tcf).
Petrobras operates the block GUA-OFF-0 through Petrobras International Braspetro (PIB-COL) with 44.44% interest and Ecopetrol is its partner with the remaining 55.56% stake.
