Econergy secures financing for 342 MW solar and BESS project in Romania

Econergy has signed financing agreements worth approximately EUR229m for its Părău 2 solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Brașov County, Romania. The development will pair a 342 MW solar PV facility with a co-located 150 MW / 300 MWh BESS. Construction of Părău 2 is already underway, with commercial operations expected to start by early 2028.

The project obtained the largest capacity award in Romania’s first CfD auction, securing a 125 MWac allocation at a strike price of EUR49.4/MWh for a 15-year period following the start of operations. The rest of the project’s generating capacity will be subject to market prices.

Under Romania’s final revised National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) 2021-2030, published in October 2024, the country aims to increase the share of renewables in final energy consumption to 38.3% by 2030, below the 41% share recommended by the European Commission. In 2024, renewables accounted for 25.4% of final energy consumption.

According to our data, the country has an installed capacity of more than 23 GW, 76% of which is CO2-free (29% hydro, 27% solar, 14% wind, 6% nuclear, and 1% biomass) and about 24% thermal (13% lignite, 6% gas, and 5% oil) (end of 2025).
