EC approves €750m Dutch aid scheme for industrial decarbonisation

The European Commission has approved a €750m Dutch State aid scheme to support investments in the decarbonisation of industrial production processes to foster the transition of the Netherlands towards a net-zero economy. The scheme aims to incentivise companies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from industrial production processes by at least 40% compared to their current levels through direct grants awarded following one or more calls proposals. To be eligible, the companies must be operating an industrial installation in the Netherlands and reduce their annual greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 by at least 0.1 Mt below the minimum thresholds set by the national CO₂ levy through the electrification of their industrial processes. The aid will not exceed €200m per beneficiary and it will be granted no later than 31 December 2025.

Adopted in March 2023 and amended in November 2023 and in May 2024, the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework (TCTF) aims to accelerate the rollout of renewable energies, facilitate the decarbonisation of industrial processes, and accelerate investments in key sectors for the transition towards a net-zero economy.
