EBRD awards €192m to develop 531MW of new solar capacity in Romania

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has awarded a €192m financing package for the development of three new solar power plants with a combined capacity of 531 MW in south-eastern Romania (EBRD press release, 27/11/2025). The Slobozia, Corbii Mari and Iepuresti II solar projects, located in the Romanian Dâmbovița and Giurgiu counties, are expected to generate approximately 676 GWh/year of clean energy and avoid about 280 ktCO2/year. The Slobozia project will benefit from a 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD) awarded under Romania’s first CfD auction, while the electricity produced by the other two solar power plants will be sold on Romania’s competitive Day-Ahead Market.

Romania’s aims to reach 38% of gross final energy consumption from renewables by 2030.
