Dynegy sells the 1.6 GW Brayton Point power plant site (US)

The US energy utility Dynegy Corporation has reached an agreement regarding the sale of the Brayton power plant site in Somerset, Massachusetts (United States) to Commercial Development Company. The transaction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017 following a due diligence process. Most of the coal-related infrastructure on the site is expected to be demolished.

The 1,488 MW coal-fired Brayton Point facility was one of 10 power generation facilities purchased by Dynegy from Energy Capital Partners in April 2015. It consists of four units - three coal-fired units commissioned between 1963 and 1969 and one gas-fired unit commissioned in 1974. The decision to retire the plant was made prior to Dynegy’s purchase of the facility. The plant ceased operations at the end of May 2017.

Dynegy operates power generating facilities with a capacity of 27 GW throughout the United States and is currently undergoing a divestment programme to reduce its debt exposure. The company is also reorganizing its portfolio and acquired Engie's power generation portfolio in the United States in February. In October 2017, Dynegy and Vistra Energy announced an all-stock merger deal, which will create one of the lowest-cost integrated power company in the US power sector.
