The Dutch Ijmuiden Ver offshore wind zone will have a capacity of 6 GW

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) plans to expand the Ijmuiden Ver offshore wind zone from 4 GW to 6 GW of total capacity. In addition, the project will incorporate three instead of two 2 GW grid connection systems. The site will also be divided into six areas instead of four. Final permits and spatial plans are expected to be in place in mid-2022.

Earlier in October 2021, Tennet launched the tender of the stations (Platform & HVDC system) of the Dutch IJmuiden Ver power plant projects. It is expected that this contract will be awarded by the end of 2022. Recently the engineering for the land station was tendered and the cable contract will follow later this year. The first  2 GW IJmuiden Ver connection is planned to be operational in 2028.

In 2020, wind power accounted for 17% of the Netherlands’ installed capacity, with around 6.6 GW. Around 12 GW of wind projects are currently in various phases of development in the country.
