According to Duke Energy's 2017 sustainability report, the company operates roughly 49,500 MW of power generation capacity and delivers power to 7.6 million industrial users (20% of power sales) and commercial and residential customers (32% of power sales) throughout the United States.
Duke Energy's generation capacity is mostly thermal with 39% gas and oil-fired and 36% coal-fired capacity, while nuclear power and renewables respectively stand for 18% and 7%. As for the power generation, nuclear makes up 35% of the total, while coal, gas/oil and renewables account for 34%, 30% and 1% respectively.
Duke Energy Renewables is active in 14 states and has a total capacity of 2,907 MW from 21 wind projects (2,311 MW, i.e. 79% of the total capacity) and 63 solar projects (596 MW, 21%).
The group plans to invest US$11bn in gas-fired generation and in renewables by 2030 to cut its CO2 emissions by 40% from 2005 levels.
