DTEK and GE Vernova sign MoU to advance a 650 MW CCGT project in Ukraine

The Ukrainian private energy group DTEK has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GE Vernova to advance the development of a new gas-fired CCGT power plant in western Ukraine. The EUR900m (USD1bn) project would consist of a 650 MW CCGT power plant to be built at DTEK’s Burshtyn power plant, as part of DTEK’s strategic coal-to-gas conversion programme.

DTEK and GE Vernova will collaborate on the potential deployment of advanced gas turbine technology, equipment supply and the development of financing structures for the project, as well as ancillary equipment to join the power plant to the grid. The project is expected to be commissioned by 2032 and to produce up to 5 TWh/year.

Earlier in June 2026, the government of Ukraine announced a tender for the construction of 1.5 GW of gas-fired power capacity, to be split into four regional lots; 872 MW would be developed across the Sumy, Kharkiv and Poltava regions, 283 MW in the Dnipropetrovsk region, 250 MW in Kyiv city, and the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, and 100 MW in the Odesa region. The future tender is part of Ukraine's ambitions to return to an installed capacity of 54 GW, of which 50% should come from nuclear, 30% from renewables and 20% from gas
