DTE Energy targets 15 GW of renewables in Michigan (US) by 2042

DTE Energy has reached a settlement agreement with nearly two dozen organizations from across Michigan (United States) on the group’s CleanVision Integrated Resource Plan, targeting 85% carbon reduction in nine years (2032), 90% by 2040 and net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The group plans to accelerate the development of energy storage, targeting 780 MW through 2030 with a goal of more than 1,800 MW of storage by 2042.

This 20-year plan, which will end DTE Energy’s use of coal in 2032 with the repurposing of its Belle River plant and the retirement of its Monroe plant while developing more than 15 GW of renewables by 2042, requires approval by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC). More than US$11bn will be invested by the company in Michigan.

The company is the largest power utility in Michigan, with 11 GW of installed capacity, including the Fermi 2 nuclear power plant (1.1 GW). The company serves 2.3 m power customers in Michigan as well as 1.3 m gas clients.
