The South Korean company Doosan Enerbility has signed a KRW 890bn (US$612m) contract with the Saudi Electric Power Corporation (SEPC) to build the PP12 CCGT power plant in Saudi Arabia with a capacity of 1.8 GW. The project, located about 150 km north-west of Riyadh, involves Doosan designing and supplying major equipment for the power plant, scheduled for completion in 2028.
This order follows a recent KRW2,200bn (US$1.5bn) contract to build two combined cycle (CCGT) power plants in Saudi Arabia, totalling 3.6 GW. Doosan has secured the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the construction of the Rumah 1 and Nairiyah 1 power plants (1.8 GW each) with the Korea Electric Power Corporation-led consortium. The Rumah 1 and Nairiyah 1 projects are located about 80 km and 470 km north-east of Riyadh, respectively, and are also scheduled for completion in 2028.
The power generated at the three power plants will be sold to the Saudi Power Procurement Company under 25-year contracts. With these projects, Doosan Enerbility has won a total of contracts worth KRW6,700bn in Saudi Arabia over the past five years.
