DONG Energy sells 50% of the Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind project (Germany)

The Danish energy group DONG Energy has entered into an agreement to sell 50% of its 450 MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind project in Germany to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) for approximately €1.17bn (sale price for 50% and commitment to fund 50% of the payments under a full-scope EPC agreement). GIP is also the 50% partner in another DONG Energy offshore wind park in Germany, Gode Wind 1.

The Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind park is located approximately 59 km from the Norddeich harbour and 34 km north of the Borkum island in the German part of the North Sea. It consists of 56 MHI Vestas turbines rated 8 MW each and will be operated from DONG Energy's base in Norddeich. The project is currently under construction and is expected to be fully commissioned in 2019.

The transaction is subject to approval by the competition authorities and is expected to be completed before the end of 2017.
