Danish energy group DONG Energy has selected Siemens as a preferred supplier for its 1,200 MW Hornsea Project One wind park off the Yorkshire coast in the United Kingdom. The project was developed by DONG Energy with 33.33% and SMart Wind (a 50-50 joint venture of Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Financial Services) with 66.66%. DONG Energy entered the joint venture in December 2011 and had an option to acquire full ownership upon consent from the British Department of Energy and Climate Change (granted in December 2014). The project is expected to be commissioned in 2020, provided that a final investment decision is taken (expected in the second half of 2016). Siemens will supply 171 wind turbines rated 7 MW each. Project One is part of the Hornsea Offshore Wind Farm zone, one of the Round 3 offshore wind programme of The Crown Estate; the Hornsea Offshore Wind Farm zone has a maximum capacity of 4 GW.
