Dong Energy commissions the Gode Wind-1 and 2 wind parks (Germany)

The Danish energy group DONG Energy has officially inaugurated the 330 MW Gode Wind-1 and 252 MW Gode Wind-2 offshore wind parks in Germany, located 45 km from the German mainland and 33 km from the islands Norderney and Juist.

With a cumulated capacity of 582 MW, the newly commissioned facilities are expected to generate enough electricity supply approximatively 600,000 German households. The planning phase of the projects began with the FID in 2013 and construction works for both wind farms were launched in 2015. DONG Energy owns 50% of both facilities while Global Infrastructure Partners holds the remaining 50% of Gode Wind-1. The German insurance group Talanx owns an indirect interest in the project. Four Danish pension funds (PKA, Industriens Pension, Lærernes Pension und Lægernes Pensionskasse) hold the remaining 50% stake in Gode Wind-2.

The projects will contribute substantially to meeting the German government's target to reach a total capacity of 6.5 GW of offshore wind power capacity by 2020. DONG Energy estimates its share in this target to 21%, once its Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind project - currently under construction- is commissioned.

In 2017, DONG Energy took part in the first of two German tender rounds for offshore wind energy and was awarded three projects with a total capacity of 590 MW. Their FID is planned for 2021 and they are expected to be commissioned by 2024. Two of the projects, namely OWP West and Borkum Riffgrund West-2, will be realised without any subsidies. The Gode Wind-3 project will obtain €60/MWh.
