The European Commission has approved the acquisition of the Formosa I wind farm in Taiwan by Dong Energy, Macquarie and Swancor. The transaction will raise no competition concern since it is located out of the EU.
Dong has now acquired a 35% share in the Formosa I Taiwan offshore project (Miaoli County), which has been purchased from the local company Swancor Renewable.
The project shareholders are now: Dong (35%), Macquarie Capital (50%) and Swancor Industries (15%). Dong is expected to provide advisory services but Swancor Renewable will still be in charge of the development and the construction of the project.
Dong believes offshore wind to be a driver in Taiwan's future energy mix and announced Formosa I is a key milestone and for its future growth in the country.
Formosa I first phase has been already set up and delivers 8MW. The wind farm will deliver 128 MW when fully commissioned in 2018.
