Dominion Energy has selected Siemens Gamesa to deliver offshore wind turbines for its 2.6 GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) commercial project off Virginia (United States). The scope of the contract includes 176 turbines (SG 14-222 DD) rated 14 MW each and a 10-year Service agreement. Dominion Energy submitted its Construction and Operations Plan (COP) to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) in December 2020 and submitted an updated COP in June 2021. The project is expected to enter construction as early as in 2024 and to be commissioned in 2026.
The CVOW project is expected to help Virginia meet the targets of the Virginia Clean Economy Act, which requires the State to have 100% clean energy by 2045. The United States aims to deploy 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030 and to permit at least 25 GW of onshore renewable energy by 2025.
