DoE pulls out from the US$2.5bn Eastern Line transmission project (US)

The United States Department of Energy (DoE) and Clean Line Energy Partners have mutually agreed to terminate their cooperation on the US$2.5bn, 700-mile (1,126 km) long Plains & Eastern Clean line transmission project. The DoE also decided to withdraw from the 4 GW project, which will deliver low-cost wind power from the Oklahoma Panhandle region to Tennessee and Arkansas (US).

The project also faced strong opposition from the local landowners in the Arkansas counties. It is still viable but will now move at a slower pace. Besides, Clean Line Energy sold its subsidiary Plains and Eastern Clean Line Oklahoma and all of the assets for the Plains & Eastern Clean Line transmission project in Oklahoma to NextEra Energy Resources in December 2017. Clean Line Energy now retains the project assets east of

Oklahoma, while NextEra Energy Resources owns the project assets in the state of Oklahoma.
