The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar project in the United Arab Emirates. The project will consist of a 200 MW Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) power plant, expected to be commissioned by April 2021, and is part of DEWA's target to reach 1,000 MW of CSP by 2030.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar power project, developed on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, is developed in phases, with the first one of 13 MW commissioned in 2013. The second phase of 200 MW will be commissioned by 2017. The third phase, awarded in November 2016 to a consortium led by Masdar, is expected in 2020. In the long term (by 2030), the park's capacity could be raised to 5,000 MW, with total investments of AED 50bn (13.6bn).
In the long term, Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 aims to increase the share of clean energy in Dubai total energy output to 7% by 2020, 25% by 2030, and 75% by 2050.
