Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has commissioned the second unit of the 2,400 MW Hassyan gas-fired power plant in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), reaching an installed capacity of 1,200 MW. The US$3.2bn project consists of four units of 600 MW ultra-super critical boilers, steam turbines and generators and will also include a water desalination plant. The third unit should enter commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2022 and the fourth unit is scheduled to be added in the third quarter of 2023.

Hassyan Energy Company is owned by DEWA (51%), ACWA Power (26.95%), Harbin Electric International (14.7%) and Silk Road Fund (7.35%). The project was initially designed as a dual-fuel power plant running on both natural gas and coal. Earlier in February 2022, the company decided to convert the project from coal to natural gas.
