Development of a 300 MW solar project in India

Engineering company Larsen and Toubro (L&T) is set to win a Rs 2,100 crore (US$390m) Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) contract for a 300 MW solar power project in Tamil Nadu (India).

The solar project is developed by a joint venture of the INDarya Green Power and the Tamil Nadu Government’s industrial development arm, TIDCO. The companies intend to sell the project in a modular fashion (300 plants of 1 MW) and will not operate the plant or sell the power generated. The buyers will benefit from the "solar purchase obligation" mandated by the Tamil Nadu government, which requires from obligated companies to buy 6% of their consumption from solar power plants, and from "renewable energy certificates", i.e. generation-based market tradeable instruments.

The project also includes a 230 kV substation within its premises. Total investment is estimated at Rs 3,000 crore (US$560m).
