BESS developer and operator Dais Energy Ventures and investor Electric Land have partnered to develop 4 GW of BESS projects across Germany. The JV plans to deploy grid-scale BESS projects at strategic grid nodes within the country, including smaller distribution connected assets and gigawatt-hour scale transmission assets. The first project expected to come online in 2026.
In addition, BESS developer Trianel, infrastructure company BKW AG and independent asset manager Luxcara have joined forces to develop a battery storage park with a capacity of 900 MW/1,800 MWh BESS on the edge of the German Ruhr region. The Waltrop battery park consists of two phases, with the first including the installation of three 300 MW BESS, with an expected second expansion phase of 600 MW. The developers plan to start construction works in 2026, targeting commissioning for the first quarter of 2028. The project is subject to antitrust approval.
Germany is targeting 60 GWh of new BESS by 2037 to reach its goal to supply a 100% of its electricity consumption with renewables by 2035.
