Deutsche ReGas terminates contract for FSRU Energos Power (Germany)

The German company Deutsche ReGas has announced the termination of the charter contract for the FSRU Energos Power with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection. The 174,000 m3 Energos Power FSRU has been operating since February 2024 as one of the two FSRUs on the 13.5 bcm/year Deutsche Ostsee LNG import terminal, located in the port of Mukran (Rügen Island, Germany). Deutsche ReGas cited Deutsche Energy Terminal’s marketing of its capacities for the regulated LNG terminals at prices significantly below the cost-covering fees approved by the German Federal Network Agency as one of its reasons to terminate the contract. The company also announced its disposition to reach an agreement with the German Government to reach a solution in case of an eventual supply shortage.

Deutsche Ostsee LNG import terminal started commercial operations in September 2024 with a storage capacity of over 300,000 m3 of LNG and a regasification capacity of 13.5 bcm/year of natural gas to feed the German gas transmission network in Lubmin through a 50 km pipeline. Besides the Energos Power FSRU, the terminal features the 145,000 mFSRU Neptune which is 50% owned by Hoegh LNG and sub-chartered by Deutsche ReGas from TotalEnergies.

According to preliminary data from the German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), German gas imports amounted to 865 TWh (-11%), of which 69 TWh of natural gas were imported via the country’s LNG terminals in Wilhelmshaven, Brunsbüttel, Lubmin and Mukran, representing about 8% of the country’s total imports.
