Deutsche ReGas gets permit to start operations at Mukran LNG import terminal

Deutsche ReGas has secured an operating permit under German federal and state laws for its Deutsche Ostsee LNG import terminal at Mukran on Rügen Island (Germany). The project, which will have initial capacity of 7.5 bcm/year, currently comprise only one Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) vessel named Energos Power. A second vessel, Neptune, is scheduled to arrive at Mukran during the spring 2024, once it finishes its service at Lubmin. Once the project is fully commissioned, 13.5 bcm/year of natural gas will be fed into the German gas transmission network in Lubmin through the 50-kilometer-long pipeline Ostsee Anbindungsleitung (OAL).

Germany has LNG terminals in Wilhelmshaven, Lubmin, Brunsbüttel, Stade as well as in Mukran. In 2023, LNG terminals accounted for about 7% of total German gas imports.
