The Danish energy group Ørsted has released its 2021 results, posting a DKK10.9bn (€1.5bn) profit (-35% compared to 2020) and announcing a 1.7 GW increase in its installed capacity, exclusively in the United States. The company commissioned three large renewable projects in the US during the year, namely Western Trail (367 MW, onshore wind), Permian (420 MW, solar PV) and Muscle Shoals (227 MW, solar PV). Ørsted also acquired the 302 MW Lincoln Land onshore wind project in the US.
At the aggregate level, Ørsted produced 29.1 TWh of electricity in 2021 (+14%), including 13.8 TWh from offshore wind (-9%, as offshore wind generation decreased by 17% in the United Kingdom, 12% in Germany, and 11% in Denmark, despite a 58% rise in the Netherlands), 8.4 TWh from onshore wind and solar (+46%, spurred by a 22% growth in US wind generation to 7 TWh and a surge in US solar PV generation to 1 TWh), and 6.9 TWh from thermal (bioenergy and other thermal sources, +55%). The share of renewables in the company's power mix reached 90% in 2021 (stable compared to 2020). The group sold 33.8 TWh (-17%) of electricity and 61.3 TWh of natural gas in 2021 (-32%).
