Denmark's Ørsted added 1.5 GW of renewable capacity in 2022

The Danish energy group Ørsted has released its 2022 results, posting a DKK15bn (€2bn) profit (+ 38% increase compared to 2021). The company announced a 1.5 GW increase in its installed capacity to reach 11.3 GW. New additions were all renewables, mostly for offshore wind (+702 MW, including 660 MW in the UK) and onshore wind (+805 MW, including 687 MW in the US). Solar capacity only grew by 14 MW (with 10 MW in Germany).

Offshore wind capacity increased by primarily due to the commissioning of the 1,320 MW Hornsea 2 wind park, which was and subsequently 50% divested by Ørsted. Onshore wind capacity increased due to the commissioning of the Haystack (298 MW), Helena Wind (268 MW) and Ford Ridge (121 MW) wind parks in the US.

Ørsted produced 35.6 TWh of electricity in 2022 (+22% compared to 2021), including 16.5 TWh from offshore wind (+20%, 11.2 TWh from onshore wind (+53%), 1.9 TWh from solar (+90%) and 6 TWh from thermal (-13%). The share of renewables in the company's power mix reached 91% in 2022 (90% in 2021). The group sold 33.7 TWh of electricity (+35%) and 31.6 TWh of natural gas (-48%) in 2022.
