Denmark proposes measures to accelerate power grid expansion

The Danish government has proposed a package of measures to accelerate the expansion of the country’s electricity grid and reduce connection delays for renewable energy projects (Danish government press release, 01/10/2026). The proposal aims to simplify permitting procedures, strengthen coordination between authorities and transmission operators, and improve consideration of local communities affected by grid infrastructure developments.

According to the government, the measures are intended to address growing pressure on the electricity network resulting from increasing electrification and renewable energy deployment. The proposal would allow earlier planning of transmission projects and shorten administrative procedures for grid investments.

The package also includes measures to improve dialogue with local stakeholders and municipalities during project development. The government expects the reforms to support the continued integration of renewable energy and accommodate increasing electricity demand from households and industry.

According to Enerdata’s Global Energy Research, Denmark aims to supply 100% of its power consumption with renewables by 2028-2030 and to reduce GHG emissions by 70% in 2030.
