The Danish Energy Agency has awarded a 25-year electricity production licence to Vattenfall for its 605 MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind plant in the Baltic Sea. Construction started in May 2020. The project, which will entail 72 turbines rated 8.4 MW each, must be fully connected to the power grid by 31 December 2021. First power is expected in late January or early Februry 2021 and commissioning is planned for the end of 2021. Vattenfall won the tender to build the project in 2016 with a price of DKK 0.372/kWh (€49.9c/kWh). A portion of the produced power will be sold to the Danish pharmaceutical group Novo Nordisk and to the industrial enzymes producer Novozymes within the framework of a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).
In October 2020, the German power transmission system operator 50Hertz and its Danish counterpart Energinet completed the 400 MW Kriegers Flak - Combined Grid Solution (CGS) transmission project that will enable Denmark and Germany to exchange power via offshore wind parks in the Baltic Sea. The project, which required a €300m investment, connects the Baltic 1, Baltic 2 wind parks (which total 336 MW) and, from 2021 with Kriegers Flak, with the two countries.
