The Danish government will take over a gas distribution company

The Danish Ministry of Finance has entered into an agreement with the electricity and gas transmission system operator (TSO) Energinet to acquire Evida, a gas distribution company that owns 20,000 km of gas pipes and supplies over 400,000 households and businesses. The company is valued at DKK4.2bn (€564m).

In 2015, Energinet, the Danish gas transmission company, was asked to take over DONG Energy (now Ørsted)’s gas distribution grid before listing DONG Energy on the stock exchange and gas distribution companies held by DONG Energy were transferred to Energinet in 2016. In line with the government's strategy to merge gas distribution companies into one joint state-owned company, Energinet acquired a second gas distribution company, NGF Nature Energy Distribution, in 2018, and took over the municipally owned gas distribution company HMN GasNet along with Aalborg's gas distribution network in 2019. All those companies were grouped into a sole gas distribution company, Evida, in October 2019.
