Dangote selects Honeywell to raise its Nigerian refinery’s capacity to 1.4 mb/d

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE has selected the US-based group Honeywell to provide equipment and services to enable the Dangote refinery in Lekki (Nigeria), Africa’s largest refinery, to process a wider range of crude and to double its production capacity by 2028 (Honeywell press release, 25/11/2025).

  • Dangote aims to increase its refining capacity from 650 kb/d to 1.4 mb/d over the next three years.
  • With this expansion, Dangote will become the world’s largest petroleum refinery, according to the company’s statement.

Nigeria, the largest crude oil producer in Africa, produced nearly 68 Mt of crude oil in 2024, along with over 10 Mt of oil products (up from 0.8 Mt in 2023) (Enerdata's Global Energy Data).
